World Intellectual Property Day is observed each year on 26 April 26. The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization in 2000 to “raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life” and “to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe”.
April 26th was chosen as the date for World Intellectual Property Day because it coincides with the date on which the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization entered into force in 1970. The World Intellectual Property Organization is one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations.
LES SA will be celebrating World IP Day in Western Cape, Gauteng and Kwa Zulu Natal this year. More information to follow.
The theme for 2022 is “IP and Youth – innovating for a Better Future “. This follows nicely with our annual IP Kids day event we celebrate in March.
We invite our members to explore how we can motivate young creative minds to drive positive change through innovation. We challenge all members and their employer organisations to make this memorable day and to share your events with us. We would like to post all our LES SA member events on our and the WIPO website to create awareness of LESI in an effort to increase our visibility and growth in membership.
Promotion kits are shared by WIPO – let us know what your society is planning for this special event: https://www.wipo.int/ip-outreach/en/ipday/
